CJ is from Carriere, MS. He recently had a bone marrow transplant at CHNOLA. When he was 5 years old, CJ was diagnosed with an inherited, rare blood disease that mainly affects the bone marrow called Fanconi anemia. Over the years, his cells stopped producing on their own causing his bone marrow to deplete.
According to his grandmother, CJ was blessed to find a 10/10 donor that was a perfect match for him. His transplant was performed on September 4 th. This is now known as CJ's new birthday according to his staff of doctors at CHNOLA, although his actual birthday was in October and we celebrated him with cupcakes, a movie of his choice (Deadpool versus Wolverine), and lots of love.
His grandmother says, “RMHCSLA gave us peace of mind knowing that my grandson could rest and heal during his treatments and for him to feel at home when he couldn’t be was a big relief”.
CJ enjoys the game room playing the available gaming systems. He and his family have been to the library at the House several times and he was even able to take a trip to the zoo. His trip to the zoo was a memorable day for him. His family was so happy to see the priceless excitement and joy on his face. His grandmother thanks all the staff for making their family feel so welcomed and loved. She knows that when they get to go home, everyone will be missed tremendously, and they will never forget their stay.
