We recently had a mom from Jeanerette, LA staying in the Family Room while
her daughter Da’Zariah stayed in the NICU
due to being born at 30 weeks and having a
hole in her heart. She loved how welcoming the Family Room was to her and other
families. She felt it was a safe space to talk about what she was feeling without anyone
passing judgement. “The other families talked to me about why they needed to stay,
and we comforted each other by updating each other about our children daily. Talking to
Whitney was my favorite part of the Family Room. She was amazing and very funny.”
Not only did she appreciate how all the staff and volunteers made her feel comfortable
and safe, but she says she cannot give enough credit to how much support she felt from
everyone, especially with her being a first-time mother.
