Danaca (grandmother) and Kailee (mom) stayed in the Family Room while baby Kelsi (born 7/19) had an extended stay in the NICU. Kelsi, born with gastroschisis, a birth defect where her intestines were outside of her body because of a hole in her abdominal wall, was rushed into surgery immediately after she was born.
When asked about how the RMFR helped their family, Danaca said “Where do I start?! We live 3.5 hours away from Lafayette and getting a room here took a tremendous weight off knowing we would be right here with Kelsi, which played an important part of her healing.
Alison and Whitney have been angels whose wings go unseen. From making sure my daughter had a pump to going out of their way to do what they could to make us comfortable and all our needs were met. My husband and I have 4 kids and now 2 grandkids in total. It was hard being away from them; however, the Family Room made it possible for them to visit in comfort and spend time together. I just cannot express my gratitude to everything Ms. Alison, with her staff and volunteers, have done for us. RMHC made it possible to focus on my daughter and granddaughter without the stress of not having somewhere to stay while going through this devastating time in our lives.”
Kelsi was discharged Tuesday 8/27/24. She will have many follow-up appointments over the next few years, but we will be right here for them when they return!
